Biography

Alper Kömürcü is a composer, arranger, conductor and music producer whose work spans original composition, symphonic arrangements, live concerts and television productions. His practice brings together the writing, interpretation and production of music, from the first musical idea to its realisation on stage and in the studio.

He has worked with artists including Katherine Jenkins, Alessandro Safina, Nilüfer, Hande Yener, Murat Karahan and Fatih Erkoç. Across concert and recording projects, he has undertaken orchestration, musical direction and conducting. Central to his approach is preserving the emotional core of a work while opening up new expressive possibilities through the orchestra.

Released in 2014, his debut solo album, MAT, introduced audiences to his original compositions. As founder and conductor of the Istanbul Academy Philharmonic Orchestra, he shapes both the musical conception and live interpretation of its concert projects. Through Elma Şekeri Production, which he co-founded with İpek Açar Kömürcü in 2018, he also leads creative and production processes for concerts and television.

Early in his career, Kömürcü won first prize in Halıcı Bilişim’s Computer Composition Competition. In 2011, he received the Best Composition and Best Arranger awards at the 19th Altın Güvercin Song Contest. His works have been performed by various symphony orchestras.

Born in Ankara in 1980, Kömürcü began his musical education in violin at Çukurova University State Conservatory before receiving a scholarship to Bilkent University’s Faculty of Music and Performing Arts. He completed his master’s degree at Istanbul University State Conservatory. He also studied jazz harmony and orchestration with Kamil Özler, and conducting with Professor Ramiz Malik Aslanov.

Working across composition, arranging, conducting and production, Kömürcü approaches the orchestra as a means of connecting musical worlds and deepening emotional expression.
